This good old-fashioned southern porch rocker has become
famously known as the Kennedy Rocker because President Kennedy so loved
his rocker and took it with him everywhere. You can read more on the
history of this comfortable rocker by clicking here.
Lineage to the original is guaranteed with a registered trademark stamped
underneath the rocker arm of each chair.
The secret of this chair's comfort lies in the
shrewdly planned steam-bent curve of the back post, which sweep in to give
firm support to the sitter's back, and yet carry his weight down to the
exact point on the rockers where they contact the floor. This makes for
perfect, restful balance. Many physicians recognize the healthful
influence of rocking chair sitting as an aid to circulation and as a
reliever of tension.
The rocker is shaped, steam-bent, and assembled while still green to a
tried and true design. There are no unnecessary frills - every part is
functional - even the knobs atop the back posts have their use as a place
to tie a back cushion. The seat and back offer
firmness and natural spring through the use of tightly woven Malaysian
rattan.
The woven cane seat is
replaceable should anything ever happen to damage it.
Now available in three wood stain finishes. Pictured
above, the Village Oak on left, and Natural Oak shown on right are for indoor use
only. Brand new for 2008 and not yet pictured, the new Dark Harvest
Oak stain is a darker finish than the Village Oak to coordinate with more
traditional furnishings. The new finish is also recommended only for
indoor use because of the cane seat. You can see a finish sample
here of the Dark Harvest Oak.
For covered porch use, this rocker is now also available in White,
Black, and Charleston Green (not shown)
painted finish.
Please note: The White, Black, and Charleston Green rockers do not have a woven cane seat and
back but instead have a woven cane-look poly resin seat and back for
superior durability. The White rocker has a white resin seat and back
while the Black and Charleston Green rockers have natural color resin
seats and backs.
